The benefits of under-pressure drilling for water utilities

Water industry regulators pay close attention to customer service. A key component of customer service is the number, frequency and duration of interruptions to household and industrial water supplies. Under-pressure drilling removes one of the potential causes of interruptions by allowing branches to be installed without impacting on water pressure or supply.

In addition to the positive impact on customer service and perceptions, the use of under-pressure drilling removes the need for – and cost of – the distribution of advance warning notices required when traditional bypass techniques are used. Furthermore, because the water system remains pressurised the possibility of contamination and discolouration – both significant sources for customer complaints – is minimised.
